State Track

One of the culminating events of the spring for Lawton Public Schools (LPS) athletics is the OSSAA State Track and Field meet, which this year, took place at Western Heights High School, May 16-17. LPS was well represented at the meet with three State Championships won and over 10 qualifiers for all three high schools. 

MacArthur High School (MHS) had three females, five males, and two relay teams qualify for the big meet. Junior Shaun Hughes Jr. was the big winner, bringing home the State Championship in the shot put with a distance of 58-7.5 and the silver medal in the discus with a throw of 161-1. Junior Quinton Mask finished second in both the 100m (10.67) and 200m (21.59) dash followed by senior and teammate Courtney Washington who finished fourth (11.01) and third (21.99) in those events. MHS also had senior Ezra Morris medal in the 300m hurdles, finishing in sixth, while the boys 4x200 team finished sixth and the boys 4x100 team placed seventh. 

Lawton High School (LHS) had three females, two males, and four relay teams qualify for State. Senior Tavaris Deans added to his great athletic career for the Wolverines, winning the State Championship in the boys high school, clearing 23-3.25. Additionally for LHS, the boys 4x200 and 4x400 teams finished eighth. For the girls, senior Georial Lewis finished sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.58 and seventh in the 200m dash at 26.50, while senior Gabrielle Wright finished seventh in the 300m hurdles with a time of 48.63. 

For Eisenhower High School (EHS), six females qualified individually with three of the girls relay teams earning a spot at State. Senior Jakayla Morgan cemented herself as one of the best track athletes in Eagles history with her third State Championship in the 300m hurdles, running a time of 43.37; Morgan also finished fourth in the 100m hurdles at 15 seconds. Senior Denaiya Stillwell-Smith placed fourth in the high jump at 5-2, while Skylar Myers finished eighth in the long jump at 17-2.75. The Lady Eagles 4x400 team placed seventh and the 4x200 team finished in ninth.
