LPS Character.org

On June 1, representatives from Character.org certified three schools from Lawton Public Schools (LPS) as 2020 Promising Practices in Character Development schools.

Congratulations Eisenhower High School, Lawton High School, and MacArthur High School for recognition in fostering character development in LPS students! These three LPS schools are part of a total of 246 schools and organizations around the nation that were recognized for their Promising Practices.

Charcter.org is nationally known for its “11 Principles Framework for Schools” that “focus on all aspects of school life, including school culture and climate, social and emotional learning, student engagement and academic achievement, as well as MTTS, PBIS, RTI, restorative practices, teacher morale, and parent engagement.”

Schools are annually recognized for specific classroom or school-wide initiatives and practices that are significant examples of effective character development and based on one or more of the 11 Principles Framework.

This year’s character development practices and initiatives included peer mentoring, service-learning, and conflict resolution approaches. Many of the Promising Practices also involved parents and communities.

Lawton Public Schools superintendent Kevin Hime felt extremely proud about the hard work the students and staff put into implementing their Promising Practices.

"It is exciting for our three high schools to receive this designation," Hime said. "They are nationally recognized schools that focus on educating  and caring for the whole child.  Students at LPS get a world class education in state curriculum and in all other aspects of their life."

Character.org representatives will honor each 2020 Promising Practice recipient at its National Forum in Washington, D.C. on March 3-5, 2021.
