On Wednesday, January 18th, websites such as Google and Wikipedia went dark for twenty-four hours in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA.) Google covered their logo and Wikipedia welcomed their visitors with a dark screen that said “Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge.” The screen then goes on to tell about the SOPA and why they are blacking out their site. Many people fear that if this act passes it will almost totally censor the users of the internet, which is pretty much everyone and that it will invade on our first amendment rights. Google has an electronic petition spreading through means of Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus, asking people to make their voice heard. You can sign the petition at http://www.google.com/takeaction
